Stafford Family History

There are records of the Stafford family living in or around the villages of Carsington and Hopton for at least 150 years.

The earliest date we have at this time is 1741 when John Stafford was married to Deborah Tyler at St Margarets Church. However although we have yet to trace where he was born, the parish records show that he came from Hopton.

They remained in the Carsington area until Francis left to live in Derby sometime between the 1891 and 1901 census. His son Thomas and his grandson Thomas Alan were both born in Derby.

Thomas Alan, better known to the family as Alan was born in 1932 and joined the RAF in 1950 travelling all round the world, finally settling in Sussex, His three children are fairly spread out, one in Kent one in Southend and the third in Bristol.

However the call of Derbyshire seems to have stayed rooted in the family as three of Alan’s grandchildren and four great grandchildren now live just a half hour drive from the village.
